Encaustic + Mixed Media Paintings
Encaustic paintings allow me to work loosely and intuitively. I often begin with either an underpainting or collage. Some of the paintings include creating rust markings or prints on luxe cotton papers and then I build the wax layers from there.
The layers of pigmented wax —nearly obscuring the images below—allow me to cover or reveal sections below and in some cases gives an excavated or “unearthed” feel to the work. The titles elude to a found object or a memory.
All of the encaustic paintings are created on wood panels and are 1” to 2.5” deep.
